The "tea cattle" is so cute, and I find it fully functional. I have had one for years, and am now ordering my third one, as I just ruined the second. (I'm terrible--my first two were ruined---different years of course---when I turned on the wrong burner, and the tea cattle was on it with no water in it.) I brew the tea right in the pot (yes, I bleach the inside occasionally since it will stain), and pour it into a big tea pitcher after brewing, so the pouring is no problem for me. The lid is snug, as it should be, so it doesn't fall off, but it is also no problem to remove. I was surprised to see some complain about the handle--I don't see the problem. I need another tea kettle and can't imagine using any other. It's just so adorable sitting on my stove (but my new one will always have water in it in case I turn on the wrong burner!!).
